Skin Cancer Surgery
Skin cancer surgery is extremely common in Central Queensland, due to our high rates of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) and Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC). Many small skin cancers can be satisfactorily treated by General Practitioners or Skin Care Clinics, without requiring the help of a General Surgeon.
Dr Andrew Russell treats many patients diagnosed with melanoma, as the excisions required for this disease are often quite extensive, sometimes involving skin grafts or advancement flap repair. These operations are often performed under General Anesthesia, requiring a specialist Anesthetist. Larger BCCs and SCCs may also require excision with either skin grafts or advancement flap surgery. Some lesions however, can be very large or complex and best treated by a specialist Plastic Surgeon. Dr Andrew Russell always decides in the best interests of his patient, and would certainly recommend a Plastic Surgeon if appropriate.
